CallWriter Member Site Access
CallWriter’s Real-Time Lists and other tools are available only our members’ website, for paid and free-trial members. While it doesn’t happen often, sometimes a CallWriter member will have trouble getting into the members’ site. I added this blog page as an additional resource for the occasional member who encounters this problem. If you do, please try these fixes before calling or writing us, because these are the questions we’ll ask and the solutions we’ll propose, anyway!
Usernames and Passwords
Callwriter usernames and passwords are case-sensitive, meaning they must be entered exactly as created, using capital and lower-case letters as the case may be and without adding a space at either end (which sometimes happens when copying and pasting). If you are entering username and password correctly, then either your account is not currently active, or you have a browser problem (addressed below) - all too common for PC users, alas.
Is Your CW Membership Current?
You can access your CallWriter member’s account anytime using the My Account link. You will be able to see if your membership is active or not. If inactive, it must be reactivated before you will be able to access the members’ site, where all the goodies are.
Did You Select Username and Password?
During the Callwriter signup process, you are asked to select username and password. Sometimes, though, members forget to do this - or actually do it and somehow it does not “take.” If you didn’t create a username and password, use the link in your Signup Confirmation email, which will take you to a page that allows you to do so - you must enter the email address associated with your membership AND the unique code provided to you in the Signup Confirmation email.
Browser and OS Problems
Sometimes the inability to get into CallWriter stems from a problem in the member’s browser. If your CallWriter account is active, you created a username and password and are entering them correctly, then the problem is in your browser. When this happens, please try these fixes, in order of simplicity:
1) Close browsers. Close all open Internet browser windows, then restart the browser. You should be able to enter the CallWriter members’ site.
3). Delete Temporary Internet Files. If restarting the browser does not solve the problem, you likely have too many garbage files on your system acquired from surfing the Internet that are preventing access. Try deleting your Temporary Internet Files (you should do this at least once a week, anyway). These “temporary” files are misnamed, since they stay on your computer forever if not removed and eventually clog up browser operation.
In Internet Explorer, click “Tools” on the menu toolbar and select “Internet Options”. In the window that opens, delete the temporary Internet files, which can be done on the General tab. DON’T delete cookie files, since this will wipe out beneficial cookies as well as garbage ones.
The procedure for Firefox is very similar. Click “Tools” on the menu bar and select Clear Private Data. Check the box that says Offline Website Data, but don’t check cookies unless you want to clear them.
Close all browser windows and restart the browser. The CallWriter links should be working.
3) Restart Computer. PCs get “tired” at some point and don’t want to run properly - browsers (and Microsoft products) are particularly affected. If restarting your browser and clearing cache does not solve the problem, the next step is to close all browsers and other programs and then restart your computer. If your account is active, this should get you in.
If these steps don’t work then it is likely that you have a virus or other problem with your browser or system, especially if using IE. Try going to CallWriter using a different browser. For example, if you use IE, then try using Netscape or (my favorite) Firefox - both free. Opera is a great browser, and people seem to like Google’s new Chrome browser.
That about covers the waterfront. If you still are having problems, please write us at support_sys@callwriter.com or call our Florida offices at 352-264-8140.
