Income Investing with Covered Calls

It's a fact of covered call income investing:
Returns on covered call options are driven by the market's expectation of a stock's future movement. A high expectation means that option prices on that stock spike up. This leads to high covered call returns. You can exploit these temporarily high premiums for consistent and sustainable returns - if you have the right data:

  • A covered call screener showing you the fattest trades;
         and
  • Timely covered call data that you can act upon.

Income Investing is the simple art of investing for regular, monthly income - not sitting on stocks hoping for a rising market to inflate asset values. The buy and hold approach has worked over long periods of time, but there have been 10-15 year periods (and longer) when stocks stagnated. But investing for income, and compounding the income into new positions, builds wealth far faster and far more reliably.

The average gain of the S&P 500 in the 20th Century was in the 7% to 9% range - annually. But that really means bull market periods alternating with long stagnant stretches. And look at the disastrous market beginning in October 2007, fading into what was almost another Great Depression. Even a 1% monthly return from covered call income investing beats long-term market gains from buy-and-hold.

And we aim for a much greater average monthly return than 1% - we aim for the 3% to 5% range. Please take a closer look at our proven method!

Covered Calls - no timing or directional trading required.
Day trading, swing trading, futures and forex trading, buying options and most trading strategies - - pretty much all involve directional trading. Directional trading is simply betting on a stock's direction, and it requires the trader to both be right about the direction and have the timing right. The old term for it is "speculating."

Speculators buy huge numbers of call options, hoping to time stock movements. Writers of covered call options simply sell calls to them, concentrating on the best stocks out there - not fad stocks or hot stocks or future stocks. We pocket the speculators' money for consistent returns. And the key is our Real Time Lists™.

How the real-time lists work

Below is an illustration of one of our Real Time Lists™ from July 2005, showing the top 7 of 30 returns:

Notice how clean and well-organized our lists are?
The covered call returns are presented on our lists in the order of the flat (uncalled) returns they offer, from highest to lowest. We do not evaluate the plays appearing on each list in any way, though our software does filter them by volume and open interest among other criteria. The trades appearing on our lists are not recommendations or picks of any kind and must be reviewed by each trader for quality and suitability.

All the covered call basics are there, and more.
Notice the detail and completeness of the Real Time Lists™. Covered call lists should give you the basics at the very least. But CallWriter gives you even more, including:

  • Stock name
  • Stock symbol
  • Stock Price
  • Option symbol
  • Call strike used to calculate the returns
  • Call premium (at the time our list was generated) for each return presented
  • Flat return (the return if the stock is not called out)
  • If-called return
  • Net debit (the trade's net cost, or breakeven)
  • Percentage of downside protection the premium offers you.

Next, notice the wealth of great trading information.
Our Real Time Lists™ go way beyond the covered call basics. Our idea is to help you evaluate a potential trade as quickly as possible, to minimize the time spent on undesirable trades. We know you don't want to waste precious time. That's why we include significant information about the company and the stock's trend:

  • Open interest of the call series (the number of contracts outstanding)
  • P/E Ratio (stock price to earnings ratio
  • Average daily stock volume
  • ADV, our proprietary volume momentum indicator
  • MADI (moving average directional indicator), a moving average oscillator which shows
the stock's current price in relation to the 20- and 50-day simple moving averages
  • Industry - the industry in which the company operates.

These are key bits of information that are very useful in covered call writing, which we teach our members. When you're ready for lists that generate all day long, using real-time information, with a wealth of important trading information right on the lists, you’re ready for CallWriter.

Research trades right from the lists.
Other covered call websites don't seem to understand the importance of this, but you MUST be able to research a trade right from the list. Otherwise, going to different sites for research wastes valuable time, and who wants to do that? Not us, and not you.

Our Research Page pops up from the list. Read more about our great Research Page.
